Rob Baiocco trained in taekwondo for decades under Grandmaster Jae Hwa Kwon, one of the 12 practitioners chosen by General Choi in 1965 to introduce the South Korean martial art to the rest of the world. But even masters stumble.

In a forthcoming business memoir titled A Noble Path, Baiocco—a longtime creative at Grey, now co-founder and CCO of Brooklyn indie agency The Bam Connection—recalls a difficult moment for “my personal Mr. Miyagi.”

Kwon performed regular taekwondo demonstrations, which featured his signature move of breaking a piece of stone with his hand. At a show in Germany, in front of 2,500 people, the stone didn’t break.
