Happy Friday to all who celebrate! Soon we will have more daylight and less sleep. Oh, the humanity. Which is better? Do we have to choose?

In this week’s edition of stories we didn’t write up for one reason or another, we see the usual turnover at local stations. We also bring you one man’s story on how he used journalism to change his life, plus our good friend Brendan Carr at the FCC dips his toe into everyone’s favorite right wing fever dream, Project 2025.

Revolving Door:

  • Axios has the info on staffing at WDIV in Detroit. A string of high-profile departures from Channel 4 (WDIV) that began last year has continued into 2025, rattling the local TV news market for viewers and journalists alike. Here’s the story.
  • Cleo Greene announced she is joining NBC 5 KXAS Dallas – Fort Worth’s lifestyle show Texas Today, which airs weekdays at 11:30am. Mike McGuff has more.

Shop Talk:

  • A one man news outlet is covered by the LA Times. In prison and seemingly unable to escape a destructive cycle that began when he was a child, Ahmed Bellozo spent hours watching investigative journalism shows, educational documentaries and Huell Howser’s homespun travelogue, “California’s Gold.” It was a way, he said, to distract from his pain. The Brendan Carr Show:

  • FCC Chair Brendan Carr and Project 2025: Dozens of pages of emails reveal how Brendan Carr, the FCC’s Republican chairman and close confidante of President Trump, was cleared by ethics officials to write a chapter in the 922-page manifesto when he was a commissioner. Click here for the story.
  • For those that don’t know, here’s what Project 2025 is, as presented by the ACLU. In 2022, The Heritage Foundation, a conservative-leaning think tank, and 140 former Trump staffers authored Project 2025 — a roadmap for how to replace the rule of law with ring-wing ideals. Click here for more.
