Disney took to its Disney+ and The Mandalorian Twitter accounts this morning to announce the premiere date for the second season of the live-action Star Wars TV series: October 30.

The show was a huge part of Disney+’s early success in driving subscriptions, as it gained a large following, a lot of buzz, and generally positive critical response. However, when or if a second season would be coming was not clear, given the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The previous season ended its run on December 27 of last year. The final episode of season one resolved most of that season’s story arcs but laid the groundwork for a new story for season two. That said, it’s not yet clear exactly what form the new season will take.

There have been confirmations on social media that Pedro Pascal (obviously) and Gina Carano will reprise their roles. The series will continue its practice of tapping big-name directors to handle individual episodes; one of those confirmed so far is Robert Rodriguez of Desperado and Sin City fame.

Additionally, rumors have been circulating about new cast members, including a story in The Hollywood Reporter claiming that prequel trilogy actor Temuera Morrison (who played Jango Fett) will play Boba Fett in season two. In Star Wars lore, Boba Fett is not actually a Mandalorian, despite the fact that his character introduced the Mandalorians’ famous armor to the canon.

Not much else is known for certain, but we now know we only have about two months until we start finding out.

As of this May, Disney+ had reached just over 50 million subscribers, making it one of Netflix’s chief rivals in the streaming space. Subscriptions have been driven by content like The Mandalorian, as well as at-home releases of event films like Hamilton and, soon, Mulan.
