CBS News New York (WCBS) chief weathercaster Lonnie Quinn will be off the air for several weeks to recover from an accident.

Quinn suffered a concussion earlier this year after, he said, he “took a wallop” on his head.

The New York CBS owned station said Quinn went to the hospital and had a CAT scan, but the results were negative. When he started to suffer other symptoms weeks later, he saw a neurologist and got an MRI, which revealed what doctor’s said was a severe situation that just needed rest to heal.

“When you bang your head, your brain recovers nicely, but it only recovers while the body is sleeping,” he said.

He’ll be off the air as he takes times to rest and recuperate.
