Donald Trump made a political comeback, but the ratings didn’t.
On Tuesday, 42.3 million viewers tuned in to watch presidential election coverage across 18 networks, according to Nielsen Media Research. That’s a 25% decline in viewership compared to 2020, which drew 56.9 million viewers in primetime.
During the evening, which showcased the Republican presidential candidate, Trump, winning the presidency against the Democratic candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris, primetime viewership was measured between 7 and 11 p.m. ET.
Networks in this tally included ABC News, CBS News, Fox, NBC News, CW, Merit Street Media, Scripps News, Telemundo, Univision, CNBC, CNN, CNNe, Fox News Channel, Fox Business Network, MSNBC, Newsmax, NewsNation, and PBS News.
Fox News won the ratings battle on the night, gaining nearly 13 million viewers across its portfolio, including nearly 10 million from its Democracy 2024 primetime coverage.
Notably, the ratings don’t include streamers like Amazon. The company’s Prime Video debuted its first election special on Tuesday as well, with Brian Williams helming the coverage.
