With lockdown easing across many parts of the world, even as Covid-19 continues to rage in others, it is worth taking a moment to reflect on the lessons learned through this time of hardship and, for many, tragedy.
With fewer cars on the road, pollution levels have dropped significantly, while wildlife has flourished. Many of us have learned to live a more simple life, purchasing only what we need, while also giving back to those in need. And for many, the distractions that stop us from living in the moment have diminished as we spend endless hours at home.
In a timely short film, U.K. agency Truant London asks viewers to think about how they will be changed when they emerge from quarantine and whether they will work to make a better future on the other side of this pandemic.
Created just days before the death of Minneapolis resident George Floyd, who suffocated under the knee of a police officer and sparked global outrage and protest, the video nonetheless was prescient enough to show earlier footage of Black Lives Matter marches and police clashing with protesters.
Featuring narration in the style of an American preacher, the online film urges the viewer to embrace the “second chance” many have been given to live a better life that takes care of the planet, and others.
“Second chances, they don’t come around every day,” the film narrator said. “Yet here we are—a chance to reset.”
