Stagwell agency GALE has named Andrew Noel as its new global chief executive officer (CEO) and Sophia Zhang as its North America CEO, it exclusively shared with ADWEEK.
The longtime execs succeed founder and CEO Brad Simms, who informed GALE’s staff last month that he will retire. The transition is effective immediately.
Simms founded GALE in 2014 and has expanded the agency to offer full-service capabilities across creative, digital, PR, data, technology, and media. He most recently held a dual role as CEO of fellow Stagwell agency Crispin Porter + Bogusky since 2022, coming on to lead a revival after a period of account losses and leadership changes.
Simms was not available for additional comment. GALE declined to share the note he sent to staff announcing his retirement.
Noel and Zhang, who were both managing partners, have been with GALE for over a decade. Over the years, the pair have grown the agency’s media arm and strengthened its strategic advisory offerings. They also oversaw the launch of Alchemy.Ai, a custom AI platform it uses to power its work for clients.
“Brad was integral to GALE’s success and we wish him well in this next chapter,” said Noel in a statement. “As we take the baton, Sophia and I are excited to build on the agency’s well-established legacy, emphasizing the disruptive approach and innovations that have made it one of the industry’s most-awarded agencies.”
Zhang added: “GALE’s culture of great people, great clients, and great work is one that we care about deeply. The value we bring as a business agency is more critical than ever and will define our future success as we set the standard for excellence across creativity, strategy, and technology.”
In their new roles, Noel and Zhang will continue to work in tandem, co-leading the agency’s strategic vision and direction and maintaining close oversight of client services and advisory.
“I see a bright future for GALE’s next chapter under Sophia and Andrew’s leadership,” shared Mark Penn, chairman and CEO of Stagwell. “GALE sits at the forefront of modern marketing, and I feel confident the agency will continue to drive strong client outcomes across creative and media ecosystems under their leadership.”
Stagwell recently reported a net revenue of $2.3 billion for 2024, up 7% from 2023.
