Former Hyundai and Subaru of America CMO Dean Evans has joined Cars.com as executive vice president.

The automotive website added Evans to its roster in late October, reporting to president and CEO Alex Vetter.

According to a press release, Evans will help the site “develop and bring cutting-edge marketing solutions to dealers and automakers to increase sales.”

In a statement, Evans said Cars.com is “sitting on an amazing foundation of first-party data and technology solutions, which, combined with the media platform of Cars.com, will enable powerful growth and profitability for the industry.”

Evans was most recently the CMO of Hyundai, where he was named one of Adweek’s 2019 Brand Geniuses for his work to enhance the car-buying experience. That includes Hyundai’s Shopper Assurance program, which includes a three-day return and exchange period, transparent pricing, online paperwork and the ability to schedule test drives via an app—and to conduct said test drive at a location convenient to the prospective car buyer.

These changes have yielded hundreds of thousands of transactions since early 2018, not to mention a Super Bowl ad starring Jason Bateman.

In the release, Vetter said Evans “sees the bigger solutions strategy that we’re driving to help sellers be more effective with technology.”

He added, “Our vision is to create a competitive advantage for our customers and further evolve the business to a marketplace and a full-service solutions provider.”

Hyundai chief operating officer Brian Smith is temporarily heading up the brand’s marketing team while the carmaker searches for Evans’ replacement.
