Electronics giant LG’s Poland operation has posted an apology and removed all its other content from TikTok after backlash over a sexist video the brand shared on the platform.

The video, initially made by a viral prank creator and then shared by LG Poland on TikTok, features a man taking photos up the skirt of a woman climbing stairs. When she confronts him, he shows her he was only taking selfies, revealing after she walks away that he actually was taking upskirt photos.

While the TikTok user ID featured in the video is “@LGPolska”, it appears the account name has since been changed to @LGPoland, which is verified on TikTok. That account no longer includes any videos except an apology message:

A similar statement was sent to mobile industry news site Phone Arena:

“A recent video posted by LG Poland failed to follow the proper approval process for social media content. It did not live up to the standards and policy of LG Electronics and was immediately removed. We apologize for any offense this ill-conceived video may have caused. We will strive to prevent such an occurrence from happening again in the future.”

The clip appears to have been created by TikTok user @sawardega, who has 4.1 million followers and frequently creates “prank” videos centered on a man meant to look elderly.

Despite being deleted by LG Poland and the original creator, the upskirt video has continued to gain visibility and criticism as it has circulated in social media. Spanish Twitter user Rubén Chicharro angrily posted a copy of the video, which now has about 690,000 views. In a subsequent tweet, Chicharro said the video had more than 20 million views before being deleted.

On Twitter, LG Poland’s account has been responding to critics of the video with a two-part response, which you can read below followed by an English translation:

“1/2: LG Polska declares that the content of the recently published video on the Tik Tok channel was inconsistent with LG Electronics standards and communication policy. The video was not previously accepted by the LG Polska marketing team and therefore removed from the brand channel.”

“2/2: LG as a socially responsible company, did not intend to emit content that does not comply with social norms, nor offend anyone. If so, we apologize in advance. The LG Poland team”
