The “Look Both Ways” exhibition opens on 25 August at the SVA Chelsea Gallery and is curated by Debbie Millman, a prominent designer, writer and host of the “Design Matters” podcast for more than 14 years.

Bold typographic expression has become the cultural currency of communication and the centerpiece of connection.

The works on display will show the way words, text and information influence art, design, literature and music. You’ll find pieces from Millman’s personal collection along with the typographic work from 60 artists, including Jean-Michel Basquiat, Shepard Fairey, Dave Eggers, Deborah Kass, Jenny Holzer, Miranda July, Kim Gordon, and more. Debbie states, “this exhibition is a stark reminder of the power language has to rule all facets of culture. These works will undoubtedly incite many passionate discussions.”
