Magnetic Rock are on a mission to build amazing digital products, and the team are busy doing that right now. The first of our products, a capture the flag and training delivery platform called Tomahawque , has just launched. We’re looking for a digital product designer to help us make that product amazing and be a vital part of future products we have planned.
Magnetic Rock is a small and focused team but exists as part of a wider group of companies, including Helical Levity (a 30+ people team building industry leading tools that, amongst other things, help to identify and develop new cyber security talent) and Spinning Fox (a digital web agency helping businesses solve real problems with innovative design and technical solutions). As the digital product designer for MR you’d be working alongside an established development team and directly for one of the co-founders, an experienced designer who is also the Chief Product Officer for Helical Levity.
We’re looking for someone with great front-end UI/UX design skills, who has a keen eye for interface design and a strong knowledge of design fundamentals generally. You’ll also need to be comfortable writing high quality, semantic, modular, maintainable code – strong HTML and SCSS experience are a must (although we do have a front-end developer you’d work with on the more complex elements). Experience with Git for version control, building or working within custom design systems and frameworks, as well as a good understanding of accessibility, responsive design and browser testing, are all things we’ll be looking for.
As part of a small cross-functional team you will need solid communication skills, the ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical people, as well as the capacity to work steadfastly under your own direction. You’ll help play a role in product ownership, roadmapping and working with the senior team to decide on product priorities.
Most of the team work remotely, but we do have an amazing office in Ascott-under- Wychwood. There is the option to work in either environment but we do tend to meet up at the office or in London to catch up on projects on a fairly regular basis, so being within a sensible travel distance of either would be useful.

We’re happy to see candidates from all skill levels. The role will include:
– Working with the co-founders and dev team lead to help drive product ownership and roadmapping, helping decide on product priorities.
– Taking elements from the roadmap and turning them into fully specified features with accompanying user stories, wireframes and prototypes, then into coded UI designs ready for implementation.
– Overseeing and improving our custom design system for Tomahawque.
– Working with the co-founders to plan for future product ideas.
