We’re proud to announce, that for the second year, Shillington is partnering with Bulletproof for our 2022 Diversity in Design Full Scholarship & Industry Mentorship opportunities—providing a career-changing opportunity to aspiring designers from underrepresented groups.

What does Diversity in Design mean to you?
An industry that is fueled by creativity, ideas, fun and looking at things differently should not be homogenous. That quite simply does not make sense.
Diversity in Design is about collaboratively stripping away the obstacles that hinder accessibility and inclusivity, so we can all be part of an environment that more accurately reflects the world around us – that’s where the good stuff is.
What are you looking for in an application?
We love seeing how you think, and the creative, playful ways you express your ideas. While craft can be honed, a passion for design, an ability to make people feel, and a strong idea, well told, is a magical combination.
I love hearing how your journey led you to an interest in design, no matter how abstract or mundane that initial spark was.
Was it a music video on TV as a kid? Grocery shopping? Your favorite video game? A graphic novel? Tell us about your ambitions and be big with them. We want to know your take on the world, on design and on your story and experiences. But mostly – make sure it feels like you – if you had fun making it, we’ll enjoy it.
What can the winner expect from the five mentorship sessions?
We want to make sure our time together is tailored to the individual as much as possible, what their ambitions, skillsets and curiosities are. We see it as a chance to get to know you and for you to ask all the questions you’ve ever wanted to about the industry. Our team collectively have a lot of experience and want to share that with you. On a practical level, it’s a big mix—from talking with our strategists on what makes a good idea, spending time in our studios shadowing and chatting with our design team, going through your portfolio with our creative directors and spending time with myself and others to ask all those random questions about the industry you want.
If you have a passion for something and want to know more about it, let us know, we’ll find the team member for you to spend time with.
Anything else you’d like to share?
If you’re unsure of whether to apply or not, here’s a sign for you – just do it – we want to hear from you. Like the others mention, you are the future of this industry and we are so excited to meet you.
