NBC has set the first week of November as its premiere week for a number of its acclaimed dramas, including a two-hour premiere for This is Us and all three of its Chicago crime series.
The award-winning This Is Us will premiere on Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 9 p.m. ET, the network announced today, with Chicago Med, Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. airing the following day beginning at 8 p.m. ET. Law & Order: SVU will return on Thursday, Nov. 12 at 9 p.m. ET, and The Blacklist, which wrapped its last season with a remotely produced animated finale, will return Nov. 13 at 8 p.m. ET.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Good Girls, Making It, Manifest, New Amsterdam and Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist won’t return until after Jan. 1, 2021.
The later-than-usual premieres for the dramas—and the 2021 premieres of others—highlight the scheduling challenges presented by the production delays prompted by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. While some shows are going back into production, the heavier lifts of scripted shows mean that those shows won’t be ready until later in the season.
Unscripted series, though, are returning far sooner, both on NBC and on rival networks. Trivia game show Weakest Link will return to NBC on Monday, Sept. 28 at 10 p.m. Ellen’s Game of Games will air on Monday, Oct. 6 from 8-10 p.m. ET, and will then shift to the 9 p.m. ET time slot on Oct. 13. Singing competition series The Voice will return with two back-to-back two-hour premieres starting Monday Oct. 19 at 8 p.m. News show Dateline NBC will begin its new season on Friday, Sept. 25 at 10 p.m. ET.
NBC had already set the return of the athletic competition series American Ninja Warrior for Sept. 7 at 8 p.m., and the Canadian drama Transplant, which will begin airing Sept. 1 at 10 p.m. ET. The network also has plans to kick off football season on Sept. 10 with NBC Sunday Night Football’s coverage of the Houston Texans going up against the Kansas City Chiefs.
NBC has also set a number of new series to debut in 2021, including Kenan, Law & Order: Organized Crime, Mr. Mayor, That’s My Jam, Small Fortune, True Story, Who Do You Think You Are? and Young Rock.
Most of the shows, save for The Voice and Sunday Night Football, will be available on new NBCUniversal streamer Peacock following their broadcast debuts.
