“God, it is insane that I have a career,” Alexis Ohanian joked with ADWEEK for the initial installment of video series Resume Rewind, sponsored by entertainment wiki hosting service Fandom. “It is borderline nuts.”
Ohanian is known to most as co-founder of Reddit, founder of venture capital firm Seven Seven Six, founder of big-bucks women’s track event Athlos, or, in these parts, anyway, ADWEEK Brand Genius. But how did his career start?
His first job was mowing lawns, before moving on to a company that hosted in-store demonstrations at CompUSA locations.
Other workplaces on the road to Reddit included a deli (for two weeks), Pizza Hut, moving boxes for FedEx, and a parking booth attendant at his alma mater, the University of Virginia.
Ohanian has come a long way from demonstrating software, hardware, and computer peripherals, jokingly telling ADWEEK, “I basically lived the worst public speaking experience over and over and over again until my shift ended. No one in a CompUSA wanted to hear some pimply dork.”
Watch for more insights on Ohanian’s career, and look out for more Resume Rewind interviews with advertising and marketing luminaries.
