HBO Max is reviving the hit comedy series, giving a series order to what it is calling a “new chapter” of the franchise, called And Just Like That…

The 10-episode series will reunite three members of the show’s quartet: Sarah Jessica Parker (who played Carrie Bradshaw), Cynthia Nixon (Miranda Hobbes) and Kristin Davis (Charlotte York), who will also executive produce, alongside Michael Patrick King. Absent from the new season: Kim Cattrall, who played Samantha Jones, and had been vocal in recent years about her desire to move away from the franchise.

And Just Like That…, according to HBO Max, “will follow Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte as they navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s.”

It is scheduled to begin production in New York in late spring.

Sex and the City, based on Candace Bushnell’s 1997 book of the same name, ran for six seasons on HBO, from 1998 to 2004. It then continued with a pair of films, which came out in 2008 and 2010.

“I grew up with these characters, and I can’t wait to see how their story has evolved in this new chapter, with the honesty, poignancy, humor and the beloved city that has always defined them,” Sarah Aubrey, head of original content, HBO Max, said in a statement.

This isn’t the only series that will be revived on HBO Max in the coming year: the streamer is also working on a Gossip Girl reboot. And it will air The Many Saints of Newark, a Sopranos prequel movie, as part of parent company WarnerMedia’s decision to have its entire 2021 film slate debut simultaneously on HBO Max.
