Mild spoilers ahead for Silicon Valley’s Season 5, Episode 3

In a recent episode of HBO’s Silicon Valley, Gilfoyle (Martin Starr) reveals that he mines bitcoin as a side gig — but only when the price is above a certain value. He creates an alert that plays the 1.36 second death metal song “You Suffer” by Napalm Death whenever bitcoin rises or drops so he can remote toggle his rig at home. Given the volatility of bitcoin and the volume of the song, this quickly becomes annoying and becomes a recurring theme throughout the episode.

Now, an Icelandic website design agency called Viska has created a web version of Gilfoyle’s death metal alert — which is just as startling as promised. Sindri Guðmundsson from Viska explained that his company watches Silicon Valley as a weekly event while a season is airing and that the team built the tool “just for fun.” The Viska team wrote a simple Javascript plugin that fetches the price of bitcoin from Coincap.io, then built the site off WordPress, all within three hours. Now all a user will need to completely imitate Gilfoyle is an actual mining rig at home to toggle on and off remotely.

“We actually follow the bitcoin price quite a lot and playing beautiful music each time it passes a certain amount makes the day better,” said Guðmundsson, in an email to The Verge. It’s impossible to tell if he’s joking about “You Suffer” being beautiful music. According to Genius.com, the lyrics are, “You suffer, but why?” though to the casual listener it sounds a lot more like “NUOOOOOH.”
