SpecterOps, a Seattle startup building technology to secure Microsoft’s Active Directory (AD) and Azure AD deployments, has scored a $25 million funding round to fuel ambitious expansion plans.

The company said the Series A investment was led by Silicon Valley venture outfit Decibel.  SpecterOps also secured capital from several prominent cybersecurity executives, including Mandiant founder Kevin Mandia and Duo Security co-founders Jon Oberheide and Dug Song.

SpecterOps competes in the growing attack surface management category that combines tooling for continuous vulnerability scanning, penetration testing, red-teaming and patch management.

The company is best known for its BloodHound Enterprise platform, which offers tooling to remove identity attack paths in Microsoft’s Active Directory (AD) and Azure AD.

The platform, which has an open-source component, is used to continuously map and pinpoint identity attack paths in Active Directory and Azure (Azure Active Directory and Azure Resource Manager) and remove a malicious attacker’s easiest, most reliable, and most attractive target.

SpecterOps said BloodHound Enterprise also offers precise, practical remediation guidance and the ability to monitor and measure an organization’s security posture.

The company said BloodHound Enterprise is used worldwide by companies like Capital Group, the University of Texas at Austin and Woodside Energy.

SpecterOps said the new $25 million cash infusion will be used to expand its services and training products.
