Hornet, Psyop, Elastic, Deutsch and other top animation houses have animated the words of victims to create these affecting animated PSAs.
The MeToo movement has always been more than just a hashtag, and Tarana Burke’s ongoing platform for the cause has now branched out into the world of animation in order to keep the discussion going.
With powerful testimonies from Brooklyn Nine Nine‘s Terry Crews, Telemundo news anchor Daniela Contreras, an anonymous survivor and more, four animated PSAs have been made with the efforts of creative agencies and production companies like Psyop, the creators of Aldi’s Christmas ad Kevin the Carrot, and Hornet, who made this affecting gun safety animation a few years ago.
As you can see, the shorts created are a touching blend of pencil-led animation and character work.
The project was co-headed by creative agency Deutsch, who advised with strategy, design and execution as part of their ongoing partnership and support with the MeToo organisation.
“We have so much respect for the incredible work that Tarana Burke is accomplishing,” says Kim Getty, president of Deutsch’s Los Angeles office. “’Me too.’ is about the power of the collective coming forward to bring empathy to survivors. For every survivor, there is a supporter and it’s an honour to give our support as an ally of this movement.”
Alongside the survivors’ narration, the stories were brought to life through animation that illustrates the emotional journey from pain to healing, and to ultimately finding a purpose.
“These shorts place the focus back where it belongs,” says Tarana Burke, “(back on) the dignity, humanity, and healing of all survivors.
“These courageous individuals are not alone,” she continues, “and we hope that people around the world see their journeys reflected in the words of these brave individuals.”
