Driving relevance means driving growth. Join global brands and industry thought leaders at Brandweek, Sept. 11–14 in Miami, for actionable takeaways to better your marketing. 50% off passes ends April 10.

In an effort to promote San Diego tourism, Tripadvisor partnered with the San Diego Tourism Authority to launch a campaign called “The Sunny Side of Things,” which will feature hand-painted street murals in three U.S. cities created by San Diego artists.

From April 3-30, people in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago will be able to scan a QR code incorporated into each street mural to activate an augmented reality experience on their smart device inspired by the mural. In part, this AR experience features animated GIFs that users can add to their social media posts. It also gives people access to San Diego trip planning guides on Tripadvisor.

“Our partnership with Tripadvisor allows the San Diego Tourism Authority to take our beloved region to new heights and introduces San Diego to audiences through amazing experiences,” said Kerri Verbeke Kapich, chief operating officer of the San Diego Tourism Authority.

The Sunny Side of Things campaign was created by Wanderlab, Tripadvisor’s in-house creative and content studio, in collaboration with The Shipyard.

“We are thrilled to inspire travel to San Diego with the launch of our inaugural out-of-home immersive art experience which features augmented reality that brings this sunny Southern California city to life in locations around the country,” said John Boris, chief growth officer, at Tripadvisor.
