Week of January 20 Cable News Ratings: Trump’s First Week in Office Lifts All 3 Networks

When looking at these networks’ performance during the same period a year ago:

  • During primetime, Fox News was up by +77% in total viewers and +114% in the A25-54 demo. During total day, the network also saw gains of +94% in total viewers and +135% in the demo.
  • MSNBC was down by -18% in total viewers and -26% in the demo. During total day, the network was down -28% in total viewers and -36% in the demo.
  • CNN, in primetime, grew by +2% in total viewers and +17% in the demo. During total day, CNN was also up by +2% in total viewers and +13% in the demo.

PROGRAMMING:

Fox News took 14 out of the 15 spots of the most-watched cable news shows of the week, with The Five remaining on top with 5.844 million viewers at 5 p.m. ET. MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show at 9 p.m. ET finished in the 14th spot with 1.776 million viewers. 

The Five retook the top show in the Adults 25-54 demo, averaging 770,000 demo viewers at 5 p.m. ET. Fox News occupied 14 out of the 15 top spots in the demo, with CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360 landing in the final spot with 194,000 A25-54 viewers at 8 p.m. ET.
