YouTube’s annual rewind video is one of the more highly anticipated pieces of content to end the year. But, as we know, 2020 isn’t exactly just any year, and the Google-owned video giant decided to pause YouTube Rewind this time around.

Enter video entertainment and ecard company JibJab, known for its playful videos where people can insert their faces on dancing elves and the like. The company is stepping back into the year-in-review fold with a 2020 edition.

For those who want to relive the horror that has been this past year, a snarky-yet-fun video walks you through all the terrors of 2020 and even lets you put your face on a year that has been, er, memorable, to say the least.

The comical look-back shows us what happened in what seems like nearly a decade but has actually only been 11 months so far. With its rock music theme, the animated video reviews the events of the year, even the ones we barely remember before the lockdown happened, like Brexit and Donald Trump’s impeachment.

From the arrival of Covid-19 to Tiger King and murder hornets, the video crams a year’s worth of calamity into one minute and 36 seconds. And if you put a face into the video, you can be seen taking a 2020 turd to the head and growing super-long hair because of lockdown, among other bits of silliness.

JibJab stated that it made a conscious decision to stop producing these videos in 2014 but felt compelled to bring the theme back in 2020 to offer a bit of levity to these challenging times.

As for YouTube?

“2020 has been different. And it doesn’t feel right to carry on as if it weren’t. So, we’re taking a break from Rewind this year,” read a tweet.

To that, JibJab may be saying, “Hold my beer.”
