After releasing a Japanese manga adaptation earlier this year, Apple continues to take its long-running and celebrated “Shot on iPhone” campaign on a world tour with a surreal adventure set in Mexico.

“Suerte!” (“luck” in English), by agency TBWA\Media Arts Lab Latam, follows Música Mexicana singer/songwriter Iván Cornejo as he travels from California to Mexico to get in touch with his roots.

His encounters lead to a surreal dream where he’s visited by characters based on the Loteria (a traditional Mexican bingo-style game), including a fish handyman, a mermaid whose songs stir up childhood memories, and a frog guitarist who provides elevator music.

After playing the devil in a giant game of Loteria, Cornejo is able to overcome his creative block and compose a new song.

The tune, “Intercambio Injusto,” is available through Apple Music along with DJ Camilo Lara’s film score ahead of the July 18 release of Cornejo’s second album, “Mirada.” Cornejo also performed on July 15 at an Apple Store in Mexico City as part of the retailer’s Today at Apple event series.

Mexican-American directors Pasqual Guttierez and Raul “RJ” Sanchez, known collaboratively as Cliqua, recorded the film on an iPhone 15 Pro Max. The hero film is running across digital, TV and social in the U.S. and Mexico, with out-of-home support in Mexico.

A behind-the-scenes video demonstrates the phone’s capabilities, showing how the directors and photographers used different features like Cinematic Mode while filming in low-lit streets and following Cornejo running with giant beans. It also shows the makeup used to turn Mexican film and telenovela actor Luis Felipe Tovar into the devil.
